Colt US Calvary Commemorative set 1860 Army 44

For sale for $1200 OBO a wonderful US Cavalry Commemorative set of Genuine Colt Black Powder 2nd Generation 1860 Army Model 44 Caliber revolvers with matching serial numbers housed in a handsome Walnut Wood display box complete with a matching numbered shoulder stock, and a full set of genuine Colt loading tools. This great set of guns serial numbers are US 2245/2245US.This is a black powder reproduction set. Black Powder weapons do not require an FFL for transfer so this set can be purchased and shipped directly to the buyer’s home address. This Wonderful set of revolvers is in great original condition, and has never been fired. All tools and accessories are in matching condition as new never used. This set consists of two Genuine Colt 2nd generation 1860 Army revolvers. And as mentioned earlier are matching numbers. Each has the extended side plate screws and stock notch to attach the shoulder stock also matching numbered to the set. Also included is a full set of Genuine Colt 2nd generation reloading tools, consisting of a blued bullet Mold, nipple wrench, percussion cap tin, and powder flask. To complete the package is a handsome Solid Walnut wood presentation case with blue velvet lining. Case is custom fitted for both revolvers, the full tools set and shoulder stock. On the outside of the lid is a genuine brass plaque with the US Calvary embellishment and dates. There were originally to be approximately 3000 sets completed and sold, and serious collectors who have studied these guns suggest that these sets never actually sold to their full potential and that there were a lot less sets actually completed and shipped as sets by Colt than originally anticipated, making these a great collector’s item today.

Finish: The barrel, cylinder, back strap and trigger are blue; the loading lever, framer an hammer are color cased hardened; the trigger guard is brass. All remaining parts and screws are a combination of blue and color case hardened.

Serial numbers: US0001 to US3020, 0001US to 3020 (Factory records indicate 46 sets of guns in this serial number range were never shipped.)
Cases: oiled American walnut cases with blue velvet in the bottom and the lid. The outside of the lid has a brass plaque with a cavalryman and the inscription "United States Cavalry Commemorative 1777 - 1977"
Special Features: A brass and walnut shoulder stock which was serial numbered to this set with the U.S. prefix, a nipple wrench, a powder flask, a bullet mold and a cap can accompany this issue. Factory records indicate that seventeen sets of this issue in the 2900 serial number rage were engrave with a gold inlaid horse on the barrel lug, gold barrel bands and six gold stars on the cylinder. It is also interesting to note that the inspector's initials on the grips of these guns are "MSH," the same as Marty S. Huber, Colt Historian at the time of this issue.

*The Colt Commemoratives 1961-1986” by Ken Condry and Larry Jones. Published in 1989, this book contains over 200 hardbound pages with a 9x7 inch photo of each commemorative issue. On the facing page of each photo is the technical data of the issue, including barrel length, caliber, serial number range and special features. This format provides a very readable and accessible reference.
