This is an M1903A1 Springfield Magazine Rifle made by Remington in 1941-42. Barrel is 4 grove, dated 8-42. Overall condition is stock, about 80-85% condition. Gun is not a rebuild or parts gun and is original from 1942. The bolt has been polished bright, the action lightly glass bedded. The barrel is NOT star guaged. The gun shoots VERY tight groups and I used it for several years in NRA and DCM HP matches in the 1970's and 80's.
The gun is NOT marked NM (National Match), but the condition and workmanship suggest that this was one of the early Navy or Air Force armorers' school work-ups for the service rifle teams in National Match. If my information is correct the schools began marking worked up service guns "NM" in 1954 or 1955, so any made before that date would be un-marked. A parkerized bolt would put this rifle back to stock service, a nice example of a very late (S/N 3076XXX) M1903A1 made at the end of that run, just before Remington switched to the M1903A3. Suitable for a light collector or serious shooter of vintage military rifles. Contact me for details and pictures or to see the rifle.
