C. SHARPS NEW MODEL 1863 CIVIL WAR CARBINE

DESCRIPTION: Iron furniture. 22” barrel. 39” overall length. Marking near breech: NEW MODEL 1863, markings on barrel. SHARPS MANUFG.CO./HARTFORD, CONN. Markings left side of receiver: C. Sharps Pat. Sept.12th,1848,: C. Sharps’ Pat. / Oct./5/1852, right side of lock: R.S. Lawrence pat. April 12, 1859. Metal markings are all readable. Walnut stock with oil finish. Ser. # C,23729, or 123,729 (Letter C stands for 100.) Not a conversion. Early model. 6 groove. Without patchbox. 40,000 of these were made. Original, authentic, antique Civil War gun!!! (see Flayderman’s Guide p. 199).

CONDITION: Barrel, bbl., bands, and sight metal are bright with light corrosion. Wood has a few dents, dings and cracks from use. Bore appears to be in excellent condition with most of the rifling and some corrosion in the bore or chamber. Works fine mechanically. Is very good overall. Excellent shooter (have your gunsmith check it out before shooting). Nice old original Sharps percussion carbine that was used in the American Civil War, Indian Wars and Cowboy Western era.
