This is a significant and scarce Pre-War Colt "Super Match". The Super Match was Colt's target oriented version of the Super .38 automatic. It featured a special hand-honed action with superior trigger, a specially selected match barrel, and in this case, the Stevens adjustable rear target sight. In other words, the "Super Match" was to the Super .38 what the "National Match" was to the Government Model...only far rarer. Factory records show that fewer than 3000 of the adjustable sighted Super Match pistols were ever produced. In addition to being a scarce and highly collectible Colt, this pistol has the distinction of being the very gun illustrated and listed by serial number in Charles Clawson's definitive book "Colt .45 Government Models". It is depicted on page 67 with both sides shown.
