ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL M15 .45

This is an extremely hard item for the military collector to locate. This is a "U.S. General Officer's pistol"...also known as an M15. These were manufactured by Rock Island Arsenal for a limited period for issue to General Officers only. Rock Island utilized military 1911A1 components for the basis of these pistols. As determined by various internal markings, this particular M15 was made using a Colt frame, an Ithaca slide, and a High Standard barrel. The pistol has several features which make it unique from the standard 1911A1. The sides of the frame and slide were machined to remove the original markings. The slide was shortened by 3/4" and the barrel shortened to match. The forward locking lug was also removed from the barrel. The pistol also features a special telescoping full length recoil spring guide that extends through a hole in the front of the spring plug during recoil. The high profile fixed sights were also standard as were the special gold highlighted markings seen on this gun.
