Winchester U.S. Model of 1917 Enfield 30/06

U.S. Model of 1917 Winchester Caliber .30. Some refer to it as Enfield in 30/06.

This rifle was manufactured Dec. 12, 1917 by the stamping on the end of the barrel next to the Flaming Bomb Mark. and has a low serial #: 85,4xx. I received this rifle from my Great Uncles' estate.

When I got it I had our then, local Gander Mountain gunsmith check it for condition. He told me the barrel, receiver, chamber, looked okay. He did say that the bore showed signs of corrosive ammo use, low shine and darkish groves and pitting. He couldn't find anything that would prevent me from safely shooting it. Action is very smooth with strong lockup. Elevated rear sight moves freely with strong spring tension.

I've shot a few rounds.The firing pin is striking the primer hard. Being that I'm 66 years young, bad eyes, and wearing bifocals, and not good with open sights, I was able to put my rounds on target.

Stock is in good condition; some dents of coarse, but no gouges or chunks of wood missing and I can't see any cracks. Bluing under the hand guards is very good,the exposed metal, muzzle, butt plate, trigger guard, floor plate, swivels, and barrel bands show average wear for a military rifle that is 98 years old.
