MGM movie gun

MGM US, Springfield model1873 trapdoor 45/70 carbine. this is a carbine not a cut down rifle. this gun was bought by my father at the 1970 MGM bankruptcy auction he took me with him to the auction and bought some guns and let me keep this one. it has been modified to look like a flintlock. there has been a flash pan brazed to the top of the trapdoor so a small amount of powder could be ignited with a cap that was inserted in the hammer that when the triger was pulled it set off the powder for the flash and fired the blank at the same time so the fire would flash at the pan and the end of the barrel at the same time. the carbine stock was replaced with a cutdown trapdoor rifle stock and fitted with a brass end to look like a 1700/1800's flintlock. also has a piece of curled metal added on the side plate like the flintlocks had. they also reinstalled the slide and saddle ring so it could be carried in the saddle boot for western movies. this gun is still in working condition and functions as it should. i have seen one just like this one in the Alamo movie with john wayne not to indicate that this is the same one as they probably modified more than one like this. it has the typical MGM stamp on the barrel that was used so it could be returned when borrowed by other studios. this is a very cool piece of history and a must have for any collector. these are getting very hard to find for sale so don't miss this chance to own this one.watch some old movies and you will see guns with this same brass end on the barrel and brazed flash pan. also open to trades of quality items
