Springfield Armory Model 1878 45-70 Cadet rifle with original bayonet. The bayonet alone cost between $150.00 to $325.00 depending on condition. You will find the rifle listed up to as high as $3500.00 depending on condition. Mine in is shooting condition and I have 100rds of ammo for it. It looks good and is a piece of history. This is the rifle that kids 12 to 17 were given when the went to a military academy. The 45-70 was the Main Battle Rifle for the US between 1865 and 1898 when the 30-40 Krag-Jorgensen was issued. National Guard units were still equipped with the 45-70 as late as 1915. The is a big bullet and packs a wallop on both ends. The rifles is 49 inches long and with the bayonet it is 66 inches.
